Does your website’s PHP version still receive security updates?

A working website does not tell you whether its software is still supported. Here is one question for your hosting provider.

A PHP calendar and hourglass represent the end of security support. It works. But is it protected?
In brief

Check the official support end date and agree an upgrade plan before support ends.

Who is affected: Owners of websites that use PHP.

Working does not mean supported

A website can remain available after its software branch stops receiving regular security fixes. PHP publishes a supported-versions table that distinguishes active support from security support.

This article does not assert that your server uses an old version. First establish the actual environment serving the website.

What should you check in the table?

Compare the PHP branch confirmed by your provider with the official table. Check the end of security support, not just the release date. Do not treat an old screenshot or article as a current version list.

Some providers may use separately maintained packages. In that case, ask where security fixes come from and how long that support is promised. Do not assume support from a service name alone.

What should you ask your hosting provider?

Which PHP version serves my website? What source supplies its security fixes, and when is the next upgrade due?

Also ask how compatibility with the website and its extensions is tested, and how the previous working state would be restored if a problem occurs.

What is the next step?

Record the answer and a date for the next review. If the version or support remains unclear, ask the administrator to establish it. The absence of a public version banner does not prove that software is old or new.
